Billboard Bits: Kanye, Howard Stern, Noel Gallagher, Thom Yorke and More
Billboard Bits serves up the best bite-sized nuggets of music news and gossip every afternoon.
Kanye West was a no-show at the Grammy Awards last week, apparently keeping his nose to the ground in the wake of his Taylor Swift brouhaha. But according to MTV, that hasn' stopped the rapper from taking to his blog when he has something to say. Most recently, he could be found defending himself against a New York Post report about an alleged fight over an airplane seat. "I could really care less about where I sit on the plane, I go right to sleep anyway," he wrote.
The speculation mill is working overtime in anticipation of who Fox will hire to replace Simon Cowell as an "American Idol" judge after he leaves the show at the end of the current season. A Page Six source said, "It's one of the few shows that could compete with Stern's $100 million-a-year Sirius contract, and 'Idol' bosses think he'd be even nastier than Simon."
Former Oasis brother Noel Gallagher will get his day in court, with a personal appearance at the Toronto sentencing of the man who attacked him on stage and broke 5 of his ribs. According to the Toronto Star, Gallagher wants to read his victim impact statement in person.
Thom Yorke will appear on the new album by Flying Lotus, Spinner reports. The L.A.-based electronic producer's next disc, "Cosmogramma," finds the Radiohead frontman lending his distinct pipes to the track "...And the World Laughs With You." The Flying Lotus album is due May 4 on Warp.
A Los Angeles gig by 30 Seconds to Mars had to be postponed after the band was the victim of a bomb scare. According to Alternative Press, a hooded man stormed into the venue with a large, wrapped box and dropped the package at frontman Jared Leto's feet. The man stood onstage and said, "It's time for a little self-help," before Leto interrupted with, "I think he's got some sort of agenda or something." before pulling the offender out of the room. The room was cleared and the concert rescheduled.
