Artist/actress/entrepreneur Queen Latifah has been chosen to host the 10th edition of the BET Awards. Leading with five nominations is Jay-Z, followed by Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, Trey Songz and Melanie Fiona, tied at four nods each. Among this year's best new artist nominees is pop star Justin Bieber. The BET Awards will air live from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on June 27 (8pm ET).
Frontrunner Jay-Z's five nominations include best male hip-hop artist, best collaboration (with Keys on "Empire State of Mind") and two nods in the video category ("Empire" and "Run This Town" with Rihanna and Kanye West). Vying with Jay-Z for best male hip-hop artist is hot newcomer Drake, who picked up three individual nominations. Also up for best new artist alongside Bieber are Fiona, Nicki Minaj, Wale and Young Money. Additional multiple nominees include Rihanna, B.O.B., Maxwell and Monica.
The nominations were announced today by Queen Latifah, Diddy, Dirty Money and Stephen Hill, BET's president of music programming & specials, at the Rooftop Garden in New York City. Produced in association with Cossette Productions, the BET Awards recognize the achievements of artists, actors and athletes in 19 categories, including the Viewer's Choice award and the Centric Award.
