"American Idol" winner Fantasia Barrino was hospitalized last night (Aug. 9) due to a "medication overdose" of aspirin and a sleep aid, according to a rep for the singer.

Barrino was reportedly taken to Carolinas Medical Center-Pineville at about 8:55 p.m. on Monday night, according to a report by North Carolina's NewsChannel 36 (WCNC). A representative for Barrino released a statement this afternoon (Aug. 10) linking the overdose to the stress caused by Barrino's recent involvement in a divorce lawsuit stemming from a sex tape scandal .

Fantasia Speaks Out About Sex Tape Scandal

"Yesterday, she was totally overwhelmed by the lawsuit and the media attention," a rep for Fantasia said in a statement. "Last night, Fantasia was hospitalized. She took an overdose of aspirin and a sleep aid.

"Her injuries are not life threatening. She was dehydrated and exhausted at the time. Fantasia is stable now. She will be released from the hospital soon. Fantasia is a fighter and a survivor. This is not the hardest thing Fantasia has endured."

Just yesterday, Fantasia made headlines after being named in a divorce lawsuit that accused the singer of being involved in an affair with a married man. The lawsuit, filed by the wife of Antwuan Cook, references a sex tape that Barrino allegedly made with Cook.

The rep addressed the lawsuit in the statement, saying that Barrino and Cook "dated on and off" for eleven months. "Fantasia believed Mr. Cook when he told her he was not happy in his marriage and his heart was not in it. She believed him when he told her he and Mrs. Cook separated in the late summer of 2009... Fantasia is heartbroken and is sorry for any pain she may have caused," read the statement.

TMZ has posted the statement in its entirety. The singer is scheduled to release her third album, "Back to Me," on Aug. 24, while her VH1 reality show, "Fantasia for Real," returns for a second season on Sept. 19.
