Grateful Dead songs, originals, and covers litter the first of two classic concerts by the Jerry Garcia Band that will be released by Grateful Dead Records/Arista in the near future. Recorded May 21, 1976, at the Orpheum Theatre in San Francisco, "Don't Let Go," is due Jan. 23. The second set, "Shining Star," will be released in March. The lineup for Garcia sometime side project captured on "Don't Let Go" includes bassist John Kahn (Brewer & Shipley, Tom Fogerty), drummer Ron Tutt (Carpenters, Delaney & Bonnie Bramlett), and Dead members Keith and Donna Jean Godchaux on keyboards and vocals, respectively. Among the 15 songs on the two-disc set are covers of J.J. Cale's "After Midnight," Leon Russell and Delaney & Bonnie's "Lonesome And A Long Way Home," the Temptations' "The Way You Do The Things You Do." "Sugaree," Bob Dylan's "Knockin' On Heaven's Door." Although many Garcia solo albums, side projects, and collaborations have been released over the years, "Don't Let Go" is only the third live release under the Jerry Garcia Band moniker. The first was a 1991 self-titled release that spawned the single "Deal," and peaked at No. 97 on The Billboard 200. A second release, "How Sweet It Is..." followed in 1997, and peaked at No. 81 on the chart. Since Garcia's death in 1995, surviving members of the Jerry Garcia Band have continued on as the JGB Band, led by longtime member, keyboardist Melvin Seals. Here is the track listing for "Don't Let Go": "Sugaree" "They Love Each Other" "That's What Love Will Make You Do" Knockin' On Heaven's Door" "Sitting In Limbo" "Mission In The Rain" "Don't Let Go" "After Midnight" "Strange Man" "Tore Up Over You" "I'll Take A Melody" "The Way You Do The Things You Do" "My Sisters And Brothers" "Lonesome And A Long Way From Home" "Mighty High"
