Britney Spears is aiming to make Pepsi the choice of her generation. The teen pop superstar has signed a multi-year global marketing pact with Pepsi-Cola that will find her starring in new television ads for the company's flagship soft drink. Pepsi will in turn co-sponsor a worldwide Spears concert tour.

Spears is following in the footsteps of international music stars Michael Jackson, Ray Charles, Faith Hill, and Kiss, who have all stumped for Pepsi in the past.

"My life and my career have been blessed," Spears said in a statement. "The chance to follow some of my heroes -- some incredible performers -- and create something new with the innovative people at Pepsi is very exciting for me."

The first television commercial, to be developed with Spears' creative input, is planned for a March 25 debut, during ABC's broadcast of the annual Academy Awards ceremony. Traditional and online consumer promotions and in-store advertising will follow.

"Britney is on the cutting edge of contemporary, popular entertainment," Pepsi senior vice president of strategy and marketing Dawn Hudson commented. "She's youthful, inventive, optimistic and fun-loving -- the ultimate fit with brand Pepsi. Our relationship will resonate in every corner of the marketplace."

As previously reported, Spears -- who recently performed as part of the Super Bowl halftime show with Aerosmith, 'N Sync, Mary J. Blige, and Nelly -- will soon be taking her act to the big screen. The artist will make her film debut as a student in an as-yet-untitled coming-of-age film.
