Newcomers Son By Four and veteran salsero/balladeer Marc Anthony go head-to-head in seven categories in the eighth annual Billboard Latin Music Awards, set for April 26 at the Jackie Gleason Theater of Performing Arts in Miami Beach, Fla. The two acts will contend in such key categories as Billboard Latin 50 artist of the year and Hot Latin Tracks artist of the year.

The other top contenders -- Shakira, Conjunto Primavera, and Gloria Estefan -- are finalists in three categories each. The awards are based on Billboard's Latin albums and singles charts.

During the awards show, which will air on a subsequent date on Telemundo, special honors will be given to regional Mexican icons Los Tigres Del Norte, percussionist Mongo Santamaria, and East Los Angeles band Los Lobos.

In the tropical album categories, veterans Omara Portuondo, Ruben Gonzalez, and the Afro-Cuban All Stars are competing against younger, pop-oriented acts like Gisselle and Grupomania. And in the category for male regional Mexican album of the year, Pepe Aguilar has two albums vying against sets by Vicente Fernandez and Joan Sebastian.
