The album, due for U.K. release April 9 on the east central one label, includes contributions from such luminaries and Dury fans as Madness, Robbie Williams, Sinead O'Connor, and Shane McGowan.
The new set is a track-by-track re-recording of Dury's classic 1977 new wave album "New Boots And Panties" (Stiff), which spent 90 weeks on the U.K. chart. Like the original, it features backing by his band the Blockheads, with the exception of original drummer Charley Charles, who died of cancer in 1990.
McCartney appears on "I'm Partial To Your Abracadabra," while O'Connor sings "Wake Up And Make Love With Me." Williams remakes "Sweet Gene Vincent" and McGowan tackles "Plaistow Patricia."
Madness, longtime champions of Dury, cover "My Old Man," while Billy Bragg and the Blokes do "Billericay Dickie," and Wreckless Eric, a contemporary of Dury's at Stiff, sings "Clever Trevor." Also featured are Cerys Matthews of Catatonia on "If I Was With A Woman," Grant Nicholas of Feeder on "Blockheads," and actor/comic Keith Allen (of Fat Les chart fame in the U.K.) on "Blackmail Man."
The album will feature original artwork by Peter Blake, forever remembered for his cover of the Beatles album "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band." A limited edition gold vinyl version will also be available.
