Powerman 5000 are in a Los Angeles studio working on the follow-up to "Tonight The Stars Revolt," the band's 1999 platinum-certified sophomore album. Bandleader Spider One, bassist Dorian 27, guitarists Adam 12 and M.33, and drummer Al 3 are working with producer Terry Date (Soundgarden, Deftones) on the as-yet-untitled disc, which is scheduled for a July 17 release by DreamWorks.
Tomorrow (Feb. 27), the band will release its first DVD/home video, "Backstage And Beyond The Infinite." The set features five music videos -- "When Worlds Collide," "Nobody's Real," "Supernova Goes Pop," "Tokyo Vigilante #1," and "Organized" -- along with backstage, studio, and live performance footage. The DVD also includes a bio, discography, photo gallery, and digitally mastered stereo and surround sound.
"Tonight The Stars Revolt" earned Powerman 5000 four Boston Music Awards nominations, including act of the year. The album, which peaked at No. 29 on The Billboard 200, has sold more than 1.2 million copies in the U.S., according to SoundScan.
In other news, Spider One's DreamWorks-distributed Megatronic label has signed fellow Boston act Halfcocked, and will on May 22 release the band's third album. Produced by Ulrich Wild, the set will be led by the single "I Lied," for which Spider One will direct a video.
