As tipped here Friday, former Crowded House/Split Enz principal Neil Finn is teaming up with Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder and members of Radiohead for a five-date run in Auckland, New Zealand, next month. The shows are set for April 2-6 and will be held at the St. James Theatre, a historic venue in the heart of town.

Aside from Vedder, the lineup so far includes Radiohead guitarist Ed O'Brien and drummer Phil Selway, former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr, Finn's brother and Crowded House/Split Enz cohort Tim on vocals, Lisa Germano on vocals, piano, and violin, and former Soul Coughing bassist Sebastian Steinberg. The tour comes in support of Finn's upcoming album "One Nil," due April 9 internationally via Parlophone. No North American release date has been determined.

"The concept for the shows is to invite friends whose music I admire to collaborate with me in presenting a week-long musical extravaganza which I optimistically expect to be a blast," Finn says. "Given a bit of preparation time and careful planning, it should go far beyond the sometimes token nature of one-off all star shows. I would hope that a genuine musical exchange takes place and that everyone involved feels inspired and stimulated at the end of it."

It is not confirmed if the shows will be recorded and/or videotaped for possible release, but Finn has been taking a radical approach to live performances of late. At recent Auckland shows, he has asked unknown musicians to send him demos of their performances Crowded House tunes. Finn then went through the tapes, and on the day of the show, assembled a select group of unknowns to play the songs unrehearsed. In July, he will tour Australia with a chamber orchestra.
