Country star LeAnn Rimes has been named host of the 36th annual Academy Of Country Music (ACM) awards. The event will take place May 9 at the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles, and will be broadcast nationally on CBS.

"[Rimes will] bring a lot of people to our TV show that maybe normally wouldn't tune in to watch," producer Rac Clark, of dick clark productions, said in a statement. "She'll appeal to a broader audience, and that's our job -- to bring as many people to the show as possible."

As previously reported, Toby Keith and Lee Ann Womack lead the field of nominees with six each. Other artists with multiple nominations include Faith Hill, with four nods, and the Dixie Chicks and Billy Gilman, with three each.
