Mos Def, Dilated Peoples, and Jurassic 5 are among the performers confirmed for the Hip-Hop For Consciousness benefit concert, set for May 12 at the Watts Labor Community Action Center (WLCAC) in Los Angeles. Planet Asia, Mystic, Zion I, Cointelpro, Triplex, and Azeem will also perform, with other acts to be confirmed in the near future.

The event will benefit the defense fund for Muslim cleric Jamil Al-Amin (formerly H. Rap Brown), who is accused of murdering an Atlanta-area policeman last March. Al-Amin has pled not guilty; his trial is expected to begin this fall in Atlanta.

"We are only facilitating a stage for these musicians," says concert coordinator Wesam Nassar "Our goal is to provide them with a platform from which their talent can inspire their listeners to a greater consciousness."

In related news, Jurassic 5 has lined up a 15-show tour of U.S. colleges, kicking off April 15 in Las Vegas. The group is touring in support of its Interscope debut, "Quality Control," which peaked at No. 43 on The Billboard 200 last summer..
