Britpop mainstay Ocean Colour Scene will kick off a four-city U.S. tour May 1 at the Metro in Chicago. That day will also see the stateside release of the group's fourth album, the 11-track "Mechanical Wonder," on Ark 21 (the set debuted Sunday at No. 7 in the U.K. on Island). It's the third album from the act to get an American release, but the first since 1996's "Moseley Shoals."
In addition to Chicago, the band will hit Boston, Philadelphia, and New York. A spokesperson for the group says they are planning to make two or three more trips to North America later this year. As previously reported, Ocean Colour Scene are featured on the upcoming Who tribute album "Substitute -- The Songs of the Who," covering that group's "Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere."
The decade-old band has had several hits in the U.K., but has failed to catch on with American audiences. Ocean Colour Scene's 1997 release, "Marchin' Already," went straight to the top of the U.K. album chart, but is currently available only as an import.
Here are Ocean Colour Scene's tour dates:
May 1: Chicago (Metro)
May 5: Boston (Paradise)
May 6: Philadelphia (Theatre of Living Arts)
May 7-8: New York (Irving Plaza)
