Keith Jarrett, Nina Simone, Wayne Shorter, Diana Krall, and Chick Corea are among the artists who will participate in the 29th annual JVC Jazz Festival - New York. The June 17-30 festival will feature more than 60 events at 27 venues throughout the city, ranging from the intimate Joe's Pub to renowned jazz club Birdland to Carnegie Hall.
Carnegie Hall will play host to some of the festival's biggest shows, which will include "A Love Supreme - Remembering John Coltrane" (June 22), featuring Michael Brecker, Jon Faddis, the Roy Hargrove Quintet featuring Gerald Cannon, and more. Other multi-artist events at Carnegie include "Salsa Jams/Latin Pianos" (June 23) and "Sondheim & Jazz: Side By Side" (June 25). Simone (June 28) and Krall (June 29) will appear in concert at Carnegie Hall, as will Gladys Knight, who will on June 30 make her debut at the venue.
Other editions of the JVC Jazz Festival will take place in Toronto (June 15-24), Winter Park, Colo. (July 14-15), Chicago (July 19-21), Newport, Conn. (Aug. 10-12), San Francisco's Bay Area (Aug. 18), Los Angeles (Aug. 19), Amsterdam (October), and Paris (October). New to the 2001 itinerary is a May 9-13 event in Miami Beach, Fla., which will highlight Latin jazz with appearances by Gato Barbieri, Hilton Ruiz, Dave Valentin, and others.
