News on Bush, Gavin Rossdale, Sony Discos, Billboard, Ours, Powderfinger

BushBush is hard at work on its fourth studio album in Los Angeles with producer Dave Sardy (Marilyn Manson, Dandy Warhols). As first tipped here last month, the as-yet-untitled set will mark the first fruit of the U.K. modern rock act's new deal with Atlantic. It is expected to be out by September.

Frontman Gavin Rossdale tells Billboard that the new set "has more in common with the first record [than our recent efforts]. After doing 'Sixteen Stone,' I didn't even want to try to copy that record -- that gets you in tons of trouble. Now [that] we've had our maverick journey through the landscape of rock records, this one has come back full circle."

Bush's latest studio album, "The Science of Things," debuted at No. 11 on The Billboard 200 in 1999 and featured the single "The Chemicals Between Us," which topped Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart.

Sony Discos has entered into a multi-year licensing deal with Billboard to manufacture and distribute worldwide a line of CDs based on Billboard's archival Latin music charts. The first titles are expected this fall and will feature music from a variety of labels.

Modern rock act Ours will team with Australian rockers Powderfinger for a host of upcoming North American tour dates in support of its DreamWorks debut, "Distorted Lullabies," due May 15. The set was produced by Ours frontman Jimmy Gnecco along with Steve Lillywhite and Mark Endert.
