Julio Iglesias will be honored as the 2001 Latin Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences person of the year, Billboard Bulletin reports. The recognition, awarded to the singer for his artistic and philanthropic accomplishments, will be presented during a tribute dinner and concert Sept. 11 in Miami, the evening prior to the Latin Grammy Awards.

Throughout his four-decade recording career, Iglesias has worked for organizations that include Farm Aid, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the American Foundation for AIDS Research, and UNICEF.

The artist performed last week at the Billboard Latin Music Awards. His most recent Columbia/Sony Discos studio album, "Noche De Cuatro Lunas," peaked at No. 33 on The Billboard Latin 50 last October.
