Madonna has canceled June 5-6 concerts in Cologne, Germany, the first scheduled stop of her Drowned World Tour, blaming a technical snafu. The international star will instead inaugurate the tour June 9 in Barcelona.

"Due to technical problems the show will not be able to start before Barcelona," Madonna's manager, Caresse Henry, said in a statement issued by the Marek Lieberberg concert agency. The problems were not detailed.

German fans will be able to catch Madonna during four shows in Berlin on June 19-20 and 22-23. The European run will wrap July 12 at the conclusion of a six-night stand at London's Earl's Court Arena.

The 12-city U.S. leg of the tour will start July 22 in Philadelphia, and end Sept. 10 in Los Angeles. As reported yesterday (May 3), the stateside tour will be sponsored by America Online.

The 42-year-old pop star last went on tour eight years ago with the Girlie Show.
