Taj Mahal, Shemekia Copeland, Corey Harris, and Eddy Clearwater are among the blues artists featured on the first compilation CD culled from the nominee list for this year's W.C. Handy Awards, which will be presented May 24 in Memphis.

The album, "The Blues Foundation Presents the 2001 W.C. Handy Nominees," will be released July 10 by MusicBlitz Records, and will feature Mahal's "Honeybee," which was previously available only as a download from the MusicBlitz Web site.

The W.C. Handy Awards, now in their 21st year, will be taped for rebroadcast on PBS. Performers at the awards show will include Harris, Taj Mahal, Clearwater, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, Big Jack Johnson, Kim Wilson, Bobby Rush, Greg Martin, and Henry Butler.
