U2's ongoing tour of North America is the rock outing fans are most excited about this summer, according to a recently completed Billboard.com poll. The tour, which also features PJ Harvey supporting, took in 32% of 6,726 votes in the poll.
The U2 tour, which plays the third of four Chicago shows tonight (May 15), wraps up with two nights June 21-22 in East Rutherford, N.J., before heading on to a slate of European summer dates.
The upcoming trek by veteran act Aerosmith, with newcomers Fuel in tow, is the second most anticipated rock tour, garnering 27% of the tally. That tour in support of Aerosmith's "Just Push Play" (Columbia), is due to kick off June 6 in Hartford, Conn.
From there the poll produced a mixed bag, with the Dave Matthews Band pulling in 10%, followed by veteran U.K. modern rock band Depeche Mode with 9%. The Black Crowes/Oasis tour, which kicked off last Friday in Las Vegas, pulled in 6%, as did the hard rock pairing of the Deftones and Godsmack.
Pulling up the rear is Radiohead and the Barenaked Ladies each with a 4% share, and Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio's solo tour, which scored just 1% of the vote.
