Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler will sing the national anthem on Sunday (May 27) prior to the 85th Indianapolis 500 auto race. Drawing a crowd of several hundred thousand people to Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the race is the largest single-day sporting event in the world. The event is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. ET and will be televised live on ABC.
On Thursday (May 24), Collective Soul will headline the Coors Carb Day concert. Prior to the 3:30 p.m. performance, the event will feature the last practice runs for drivers prior to the race, as well as the Pit Stop Challenge contest.
Aerosmith's latest album, "Just Push Play" (Columbia), was certified gold and platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America last month for U.S. shipments of 500,000 and 1 million copies, respectively. The album debuted at No. 2 on The Billboard 200, and sports the single "Jaded," which topped Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, and peaked at No. 7 on The Billboard Hot 100. The band will kick off a U.S. tour June 6 in Hartford, Conn.
Collective Soul is in the midst of a tour in support of last year's Atlantic release "Blender," which debuted at No. 22 on The Billboard 200. Tonight (May 21), the band plays Houston's Aerial Theatre, and has scheduled stops through a June 16 gig in Valdosta, Ga.
