Spiller took best house and best chart act trophies, as well as the worldwide record of the year honor for last summer's international hit "Groovejet (If This Ain't Love)" featuring vocalist Sophie Ellis-Bextor (Positiva).
Upon taking the last award, Spiller said, "Two years after the record has been conceived, it keeps giving me so much." Others hailed at the event, held at the city's Alexandra Palace, were Carl Cox, who took the best club DJ and outstanding contribution to worldwide dance music honors, and Danny Tenaglia, who was bestowed with the Lifetime Achievement Award. He said, "I only just turned 40 -- I ain't going nowhere, I just started."
Fatboy Slim (real name: Norman Cook) suffered the biggest letdown of the night. After grabbing five nominations, the former Housemartins bassist-turned-international DJ star walked away with just one trophy, for best breakbeat/eclectic act.
Staged by Boom Factory (formerly known as MOBO), the awards were sponsored for the second year running by music portal Tiscali. More than 800,000 public votes determined the winners in the majority of the categories. The event will be broadcast tomorrow (June 8) on U.K. television station Channel 4.
