Less than a month after the planned July 10 release of her latest Island album, "Skin," Melissa Etheridge will hit the road to support the set with a North American solo tour. The "live... and alone" tour will kick off with three shows Aug. 6-8 at Washington, D.C.'s 1,850-capacity Warner Theatre. An Aug. 10 appearance as part of NBC's "Today" show Friday Concert Series in Rockefeller Center will be followed by a four-night New York stand Aug. 11-14 at the City Center. More dates will be confirmed in the near future.

Prior to the tour, Etheridge will play July 22 on the second day of radio station KBCO Boulder's World Class Rockfest concert in Winter Park, Colo. Also on the weekend's bill are Sheryl Crow, Semisonic, Joan Osborne, the Radiators, Robert Bradley's Blackwater Surprise, Leftover Salmon, Ozomatli, Sonia Dada, and Leo Nocentelli.

"Skin" is the follow-up to 1999's "Breakdown," which debuted at No. 12 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 569,000 copies in the U.S., according to SoundScan. The first single from the new album is "I Want to be in Love," for which a video starring "Friends" actress Jennifer Aniston was shot earlier this month.

The tour and the album come amidst a flurry of activity from Etheridge. Earlier this month, the artist's autobiography, "The Truth Is... My Life in Love and Music" was published by Villard Books/Random House, while on July 6, VH1 will air an hour-long "live... and alone" concert taped in April in New York. Along with material from the new album, Etheridge performed such well-known songs as "Come to My Window," "Like the Way I Do," and "I Want to Come Over."

Here are Etheridge's confirmed tour dates:
July 22: Winter Park, Colo. (Winter Park Ski Area)
Aug. 6-8: Washington, DC (Warner Theatre)
Aug. 11-14: New York, NY (City Center)
