A memorial service for late bluesman John Lee Hooker will be held Thursday (June 28) in Oakland, Calif. Hooker died last week of natural causes at his home in Los Altos, Calif.

A memorial service for late bluesman John Lee Hooker will be held Thursday (June 28) in Oakland, Calif. Hooker died last week of natural causes at his home in Los Altos, Calif.

The memorial will be held at 1 p.m. at the Oakland Inter-Stake Center Auditorium (at the Mormon Temple, 4780 Lincoln Ave.). Visitation will take place from 1-7 p.m. the day prior to the service at Oakland's Chapel of the Chimes (4499 Piedmont Ave.).

Flowers and correspondence can be sent to the Chapel of the Chimes, while correspondence can be sent to Hooker's family (c/o Bates Meyer, Inc., 714 Brookside Lane, Sierra Madre, CA 91024). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the John Lee Hooker Foundation (The John Lee Hooker Foundation, c/o Metro Commerce Bank, 1248 Fifth Ave., San Rafael, CA 94901, Attn: Larry Tidwell). All funds will be directed to Hooker's favorite music education for children and musician assistance charities.
