Soul vocalist Macy Gray's sophomore Epic album, "The Id," will be released Sept. 18 in North America. First single "Sweet Baby" will go to radio at the beginning of July, according to Gray's new manager, Michael "Blue" Williams of Family Tree Entertainment. Another track from the album, "The World Is Yours" featuring Slick Rick, is being worked to radio as part of Def Jam's "Rush Hour 2" soundtrack, due July 31.

"The Id" was produced by American Recordings head Rick Rubin, and includes guest spots from Erykah Badu and the Roots' ?uestlove. It's the follow-up to Gray's 1999 breakthrough "On How Life Is," which peaked at No. 4 on The Billboard 200 and featured the single "I Try," which reached No. 5 on The Billboard Hot 100.

In moving to Family Tree, Gray brings with her SCAM, the management company that she runs, which includes Atlantic artist Sunshine Anderson. Williams says that he is now a partner in the company, but that SCAM will keep a separate identity from Family Tree. He adds that Gray has her eye on some new artists she would like to manage, but for now "she's just concentrating on her album."

As reported earlier this week, Gray will join Anderson and Jill Scott at a one-off show opening for Erykah Badu on Aug. 8 outside of Detroit.
