Country star George Strait is lending his talent to the independent film "Grand Champion." Strait, who plays himself in the flick, shot his scenes in Snyder, Texas, on Saturday with Emma Roberts, the 10-year-old niece of Oscar winner Julia Roberts.

Strait performed the children's song "Hokey Pokey" as Emma, who stars in the film, danced and sang along. Some 2,000 locals in the West Texas town were also on hand.

Written and directed by Snyder native Barry Tubbs, the film is about children who make off with a champion steer named "Hokey" before he's shipped to a butcher. "Grand Champion" will also feature cameos by Bruce Willis, musicians Robert Earl Keen and Charlie Robison, and Julia Roberts.

This will not be Strait's first appearance in a film. He starred as Dusty Wyatt Chandler in the country music-themed 1992 film "Pure Country."
