Writer/Producer Hits Emilio Estefan With Suit

Miami-based songwriter/producer Kike Santander has filed suit against Emilio Estefan Jr., Estefan Enterprises Inc. (EEI), and Foreign Imported Productions Publishing (FIPP), Billboard Bulletin reports

Miami-based songwriter/producer Kike Santander has filed suit against Emilio Estefan Jr., Estefan Enterprises Inc. (EEI), and Foreign Imported Productions Publishing (FIPP), Billboard Bulletin reports. The complaint -- filed Tuesday in Circuit Court of Miami Dade County, Fla. -- alleges breaches of Santander's exclusive songwriting agreement with FIPP and producing agreement with EEI.

Among other allegations, the suit claims that FIPP and EEI failed to properly account for Santander's share of producer and songwriting royalties and failed to pay him all monies due. Santander is seeking damages to be determined and a termination of both agreements.

In a statement, EEI president Frank Amadeo says, "We are confident that when the issues are sorted out, a court or jury will see these allegations for what they are: a transparent attempt to strong-arm the Estefans into releasing Mr. Santander from his contractual and financial obligations."
