The 11-track, 52-minute set was produced by the band, with mixing done by indie-rock producer Jim O'Rourke (Red Krayola, Gastr Del Sol). Mastering was completed less than two weeks ago at Abbey Road Studios in London.
Lead singer Jeff Tweedy previewed new tracks from the album on his solo tour earlier this year, including nostalgic pop number "Heavy Metal Drummer" and the seven-minute album opener "I Am Trying to Break Your Heart." The album reportedly sees Wilco moving even further away from its alt-country roots, picking up where the Big Star-influenced experimentalism of 1999's "Summer Teeth" left off.
Tweedy is unconcerned about losing fans of the group's earlier, rootsy material. "I'm happy to let other people make that kind of Wilco record now, and there's plenty of them doing it, like Ryan Adams," Tweedy told the Chicago Sun-Times this week.
As previously reported, the sessions for "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" were filmed for a documentary to be released early next year. The film, directed by L.A. filmmaker/photographer Sam Jones, is titled "I Am Trying to Break Your Heart," and chronicles the entire process of recording the album.
Here is the track listing for "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot":
"I Am Trying to Break Your Heart"
"War on War"
"Ashes of American Flags"
"Heavy Metal Drummer"
"I'm the Man Who Loves You"
"Pot Kettle Black"
