Aerosmith, the Who's Pete Townshend, American Hi-Fi, and Widespread Panic are confirmed to perform at the 2001 Yahoo! Internet Life Online Music Awards, set for Sept. 20 at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom. Townshend will receive the award for 2001 Online Pioneer Award for his in-depth official Web site, which features a diary, image and audio vaults, and a project history.

Nominees in 10 categories, including best overall music site, best fan site, and best online live event, are due to be announced later this week. In conjunction with online company StarPolish, Yahoo! will also hand out a best unsigned artist award, more information about which is available on the awards' official Web site.

Winners of the unsigned award will have their video played at the awards ceremony, receive special promotion on Windowsmedia.com and Napster's "Featured Music Program," and will enjoy a retail package from manufacturing company Disc Makers that includes finished CDs and promotional posters.

At last year's awards, David Bowie was honored with the 2000 Online Pioneer Award, while Billboard.com was named best music news site, beating out a field that included AOL Music, MTV.com, Spin.com, and Yahoo! Music.
