What began as a short West Coast tour for modern rock act Counting Crows has been extended through early November. The trek, hitting largely college campuses, resumes Aug. 18 near Denver and is scheduled to wrap Nov. 7 in Lawrence, Kan. Along the way, the group will be road-testing material from its forthcoming fourth Geffen/Interscope album, which is due for release next spring.

Producers Dennis Herring, David Lowery, and Steve Lillywhite have all been associated with the project, but it is not known which of them are still working with the band. Meanwhile, Crows frontman Adam Duritz will be heard guesting on "Answering Bell," a track on ex-Whiskeytown principal Ryan Adams' Lost Highway solo album, "Gold." That set is due Sept. 25.
