Hibernating jam-band juggernaut Phish and Elektra Records will kick off the Live Phish series of CD releases Sept. 18 with the release of five full concerts on a total of 14 discs. A sixth show will follow in early October. As previously reported, the group was planning to simultaneously release six live albums, but production issues delayed the last of the batch.
The Live Phish series will feature batches of six full concert performances released every six months, according to the label. Each release in the series will be mastered from sound engineer Paul Languedoc's live mixes and selected by the band, with attempts to include concerts that are rare within the extensive tape-trading circles of Phish's fans.
The Live Phish series will also be uniquely packaged, with metallic slipcases holding vinyl inner sleeves. Cover art for the first batch was created by Phish artist Jim Pollock, with all six covers forming a large illustration when placed side-by-side.
