"We unfortunately still don't know what's wrong with [Welsh], and continue to find it very difficult to find out any more from those who might know," the band writes on its official Web site. "We wish him the very best and we hope he comes back soon. But in the meantime, due to the circumstances at hand with the upcoming tours and such, we are indeed hastily scheduling try-outs for a replacement player for the upcoming gigs."
As tipped here last week, the band has started lining a number of dates for its upcoming North American tour with Interscope lablemates Cold, tentatively scheduled to kick off Sept. 11 in San Jose, Calif. Weezer is also slated to make a festival appearance Aug 25 at KROQ's Inland Concert in Devore, Calif., where Cold, Offspring, Incubus, Social Distortion and Pennywise will also be performing.
As previously reported, the band filmed a second, Spike Jonze-directed clip for "Island in the Sun." According to Weezer's Web site, the group ventured to the hills of Chatsworth, Calif., shooting in desert heat with an assortment of zoo animals, including a bear, lion cubs, and a panther. "Island in the Sun" slides 19-14 this week on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart.
