Michael Jackson truly deserves to be honored by a star-studded collection of musicians and celebrities at a pair of tribute concerts next month in New York, according to 65% of those taking part in a recently completed Billboard.com poll.

38% of 4,569 respondents agreed that Jackson is the "King of Pop," and warrants the celebration more than most other artists. Another 27% concurred, saying his accomplishments and career are worthy of the gala affair.

Taking an opposite view, 18% of voters see the event as self-congratulatory, while 16% think that although Jackson was once an influential icon, his heyday has passed and the tribute is an attempt to rekindle interest in his music.

As previously reported, Whitney Houston, 'N Sync, and Marc Anthony are among dozens who've signed on to pay homage to Jackson's 30-year solo career at the Sept. 7 and 10 shows at Madison Square Garden. The concerts will be taped and edited into a two-hour special for later broadcast on CBS.

A new poll regarding the state of electronic music in the U.S. is already underway in The Voting Booth. Stop by today to share your opinion.
