Musiq Soulchild was the big winner at the first Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Awards, presented last night (Aug. 30) in New York in association with Heineken. The Def Soul singer won four major honors: top artist, new artist, male artist, and singles artist. Picking up three awards was Jive's R. Kelly, for top album ("TP2.com"), albums artist, and songwriter.

In other key categories, Jill Scott was named top female artist, Outkast was named top duo or group, and Joe featuring Mystikal took top single for "Stutter" (Jive).

The awards are based on actual performance on Billboard's weekly R&B/Hip-Hop and Rap charts since the start of the current chart year, utilizing sales data from SoundScan and radio information compiled by Broadcast Data Systems.
