The second My VH1 Music Awards this year will be broadcast Dec. 2 event from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Award categories, nominees, and winners are chosen entirely by voting on VH1.com; categories will be announced Oct. 1, nominees will be unveiled on Nov. 2. Fans can vote for winners up to the last possible moment before the awards are presented on the telecast.

Creed was the big winner at last year's inaugural ceremony, taking home honors for group of the year, song of the year (for "Higher"), "2-for-2" (an award for an artist who followed up a hit album with another hit album), and the "Welcome to the Big Time" trophy. Creed also performed, as did U2, Metallica, No Doubt, Christina Aguilera, Bon Jovi, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

The event also fostered some unconventional award categories, including "most entertaining public feud," which went to Eminem vs. everyone, and "your song kicked ass but was played too damn much," won by Santana's "Smooth."

"Sure, a lot of the categories are unorthodox," former VH1 executive Wayne Isaak told Billboard at the time. "But we took our cue from the music fans. These are the categories they wanted to have. Many of the category names reflect the way the fans talk among themselves about music."
