A disc of wide-ranging mixes and remixes of the all-star recording of Marvin Gaye's classic single "What's Going On" will be released Oct. 30 via Columbia. Originally lanned for release tomorrow (Oct. 23) with five mixes , the final set features nine different mixes of the song by Jermaine Dupri, Brian Eno, Moby, Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst, the Neptunes, Junior Vasquez, Mike Mangini, and Mick Guzauski.

The initial all-star recording, cut Sept. 5 and 7 in New York, was executive produced by Leigh Blake and U2 lead singer Bono. Those taking part were Christina Aguilera, the Backstreet Boys, Mary J. Blige, Bono, Destiny's Child, Dupri, Durst, Eve, Nelly Furtado, Marvin Gaye's daughter Nona Gaye, former Savage Garden member Darren Hayes, Ja Rule, Wyclef Jean, Alicia Keys, Staind singer Aaron Lewis, Jennifer Lopez, Nas, Nelly, 'N Sync, P Diddy, the Roots' ?uestlove, Britney Spears, No Doubt's Gwen Stefani, and R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe. The resulting single peaked last week at No. 27 on The Billboard Hot 100 and at No. 76 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles And Tracks chart.

The album will feature a rock mix of the song, produced in Los Angeles by Durst. Dubbed "Fred Durst's Reality Check Mix," that track features Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland, Jane's Addiction singer Perry Farrell, Bono, Elijah Blue, and Puddle of Mudd's Wes Scantlin. Additionally, uber-producers the Neptunes turned out a hip-hop version -- the "This Ones for You Mix" -- with contributions from LL Cool J, Noreaga, Royce Da 5'9", Queen Latifah, Fabolous, Sonja Blade, Da Brat, Angie Martinez, and Mobb Deep.

As first revealed here early last month, the "What's Going On" project was originally organized to raise funds for Artists Against AIDS Worldwide (AAAW) and raise awareness of the AIDS crisis in Africa. In the wake of the terrorist attacks on the U.S., the organization decided to share proceeds generated by recording to the United Way's September 11th Fund to aid families affected by the disaster, as well as the Global AIDS Alliance and other organizations working to implement AIDS prevention and healthcare programs for victims of the disease in Africa.
