Even though Mariah Carey didn't exactly get glittering reviews for her first foray into acting, she'll trying it again with a guest appearance on the Fox series "Ally McBeal." Carey will play the key figure in a lawsuit involving a matchmaking service. She'll also perform "Lead the Way," a song from the soundtrack to her movie "Glitter," in which she made her acting debut to critical indifference.

She's expected to shoot her scenes this week. Scheduled to air Jan. 7, the episode is one in which Jon Bon Jovi makes his debut in a recurring role as a potential love interest for the show's title character (played by Calista Flockhart).

Other celebrities due to appear in guest roles during the fifth season of "Ally McBeal" include Elton John and Jacqueline Bisset.

Following her recovery from an emotional breakdown this summer, Carey has been showing her support in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the U.S. by participating in star-filled benefit concerts. She made her first appearance last month during the landmark America: A Tribute to Heroes telethon, and performed over the weekend during the United We Stand - What More Can I Give? concert in Washington, D.C.
