Online music company Listen.com has entered into content licensing deals with 19 independent labels for use of their music on Rhapsody, the on-demand streaming subscription service it is developing, Billboard Bulletin reports.

The pacts, to be announced today, are with Alternative Tentacles, Amazing Grease, Aware Records, Concord Records, Emperor Norton Records, Gearhead Records, JustAddWater Records, Koch Entertainment, Madacy Entertainment Group, Matador Records, Monolyth Records, Pattern 25 Records, Pinecastle Recordings, Razor & Tie Entertainment, Six Degrees, 75 Ark Entertainment, SubVerse Music Inc., Ubiquity Records, and digitalpressure.com, a service of peermusic's Digital Distribution Group.

Artists featured under the deals include Belle & Sebastian, John Coltrane, Dead Kennedys, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Bebel Gilberto, the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, the Kinks, Loretta Lynn, Graham Parker, Pavement, Liz Phair, Tito Puente, Ringo Starr, RZA as Bobby Digital, and Dar Williams.

Rhapsody is expected to launch later this year. In the future, Listen.com's distribution partners -- including broadband service provider Speakeasy.net and Naxos of America -- will market versions of Rhapsody under their own brands.
