Pop/rock act Smash Mouth has begun to confirm tour dates in support of its self-titled third Interscope album. The trek begins Nov. 30 in Omaha, Neb., three days after the new album hits stores. Dates are currently set through Jan. 20 in Lake Tahoe, Nev., including a New Year's Eve show at New York's Planet Hollywood.
The new album was co-produced by Eric Valentine, who worked on the group's prior two releases. First single "Pacific Coast Party" is No. 14 on Billboard's Bubbling Under Hot 100 singles chart and No. 27 on Billboard's Adult Top 40 chart. On the latter, Smash Mouth's ubiquitous cover of the Neil Diamond-penned Monkees hit "I'm a Believer" from DreamWorks' "Shrek" soundtrack is No. 16 in its fourth week.
"Smash Mouth" is the follow-up to 1999's "Astro Lounge," which has moved more than 3.2 million copies in the U.S. to date, according to SoundScan, and featured the multi-format smash single "All Star." The track appeared on 10 separate Billboard charts, reaching No. 1 on the Adult Top 40, Hot 100 Airplay, Top 40 Adult Recurrents, Top 40 Mainstream, and Top 40 Tracks surveys.
In late July, the band suffered a blow after the infant son of frontman Steve Harwell died from complications of leukemia. In the child's honor, Harwell and his wife Michelle created the Presley Scott Research Foundation for Leukemia, about which more information can be found on Smash Mouth's official Web site.
