Record Store Day 2017: Exclusive Releases Revealed
Today (Mar. 21), Record Store Day 2017 revealed its list of exclusive releases. This year, on Apr. 22, RSD will celebrate its 10th anniversary with St. Vincent as its ambassador. Previous ambassadors include Dave Grohl, Jack White, Metallica and many others.
This year's official RSD list includes top titles from artists like late legends David Bowie (a three disc LP and box) and Prince (seven reissues of 12" maxi-singles from the '80s). Elsewhere, one of the more amusing titles is The Cubs Won It All In 2016, a 7" vinyl of the celebratory song that was written, recorded and released hours after the Chicago Cubs won Game 7 of the 2016 World Series.
Other notable exclusives include the self-titled debut from alt-rockers Marcy Playground -- never before on vinyl, the release celebrates the album's 20th anniversary. Ken Kesey's The Acid Test, a one-time live recording for which the Grateful Dead were present (originally pressed in 1966) will be limited to less than 500 hundred copies. Also available this year is All Time Low's MTV Unplugged session, Santana's live set from Woodstock in 1969, Notorious B.I.G.'s Born Again (which has been off the market since the early 2000s), plus releases from The Ramones, Patti Smith, Fleetwood Mac and hundreds more.
In 2016, vinyl sales increased for the 11th consecutive year, having reached an all-time Nielsen Music-era high with a volume of 13 million units, according to Nielsen's U.S. 2016 year-end report.
