No North American release date is yet solidified for the album, which is the follow-up to 1999's "Liquid Skin." That set debuted at No. 30 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart and has sold 72,000 copies in the U.S. to date, according to SoundScan.
The 13-track album was self-produced by the band and recorded in the spring and summer of 2001. In the U.K., "In Our Gun" will be preceded March 4 by the single "Sure Shot." The single also contains the track "Pop Juice," featuring Pentangle/John Martyn collaborator Danny Thompson on double bass. A U.K. tour, the band's first in two years, is in the works for April, but no dates have yet been finalized.
Gomez rose to prominence thanks to its 1998 debut, "Bring It On," which beat off competition from the likes of Pulp and Massive Attack to win the U.K.'s Mercury Music Prize. In October 2000, the group issued "Abandoned Shopping Trolley Hotline," a collection of previously unreleased material, rarities, and b-sides that included its familiar cover of the Beatles' "Getting Better," featured in commercials for Philips electronics.
