The group will also gain some added exposure with its song "Bouncing Off the Walls," which is the lead single from the soundtrack to the forthcoming Tapestry Films/Artisan Entertainment film "National Lampoon's Van Wilder."
The tour, which touches down in San Jose, Calif., tonight (Jan. 25), will include two "Van Wilder" events with the film's stars, Tara Reid ("American Pie," "Josie & the Pussycats") and Ryan Reynolds ("Two Guys & a Girl," "Dick"). The first is a Jan. 30 screening in Los Angeles, while the second is a spring break party set for March 15 in Panama City, Fla. The film is set to open April 5 in U.S. theaters.
"Bouncing Off the Walls," which also appears on "Start Static," is newly recorded for the soundtrack with Foo Fighters guitarist Chris Shiflett making a guest appearance. The track is one of four the group contributed to the film -- "Stuck in America," "How Does it Feel," and "Saying Goodbye" are the others-- although it's the only one that appears on the "Van Wilder" soundtrack, which also features cuts from Jimmy Eat World, American Hi-Fi, Sum 41, and N.E.R.D., among others. The soundtrack is due March 26, via Ultimatum Music.
Comprised of singer/guitarist Tim Pagnotta, guitarist Marko 72 (Ataris, Nerf Herder), bassist Airin, and drummer Ben Davis, Sugarcult formed in 1988. Produced by Matt Wallace (Replacements, Faith No More), "Start Static" was released last August, and has sold 27,000 copies in the U.S., according to SoundScan.
Through Feb. 7, Sugarcult will be appearing with Home Grown and Yellowcard on most dates, Finch and Tsunami Bomb at select shows, and supporting Reel Big Fish Feb. 7 at L.A.'s House of Blues. Beginning Feb. 12, the band will be touring the country with Unwritten Law. Last year the band toured with Reel Big Fish and Goldfinger, Blink-182, and Good Charlotte, and appeared on the summer's Warped Tour.
