Ben Folds will begin a 16-city U.S. tour on Feb. 25 in Iowa City, Iowa, his second go-around of the States in support of last year's Epic solo debut, "Rockin' the Suburbs." This time, however, Folds is going it alone, dropping the backing band for the first time in favor of a more intimate, piano-centered performance.

The tour takes Folds through the Midwest and the West Coast, wrapping with a March 26-27 stand in Los Angeles on March 26-27. Dubbed "Ben Folds and a Piano," the jaunt was inspired by a recent, almost free-form gig at New York's Bowery Ballroom.

"I had a set list that was planned, but by the time the show was finished and I looked and what I had actually played, it had nothing to do with what I had planned," Folds says in a statement. "To me that's the best kind of show. I actually have more room to throw s*** into the piano and make it something completely different every night. It's all about talking to the audience and fulfilling requests and making a night out of it."

Tickets for many of the dates can be purchased, sans service charges, via Folds' official Web site. After completing the U.S. leg in March, Folds will stage an April tour of Australia, where he now lives.

Folds recently released "Still Fighting It" as the second single from "Rockin' the Suburbs," with a video clip directed by his wife, Frally Hynes. "Rockin' the Suburbs" debuted at No. 42 on The Billboard 200 last September.
