Talented R&B newcomer Alicia Keys is the choice of music fans to win the best new artist honor at the upcoming 44th annual Grammy Awards. The J Records artist -- whose debut album, "Songs in A Minor," has sold 4.4 million copies in the U.S., according to SoundScan -- pulled in 36% of 9,327 votes.

In second place, modern rock act Linkin Park netted 28% of the tally. A distant third was Nelly Furtado with 19%, followed by India.Arie with 10%. Bringing up the rear was U.K. artist David Gray, who garnered 7% of the vote.

Keys, who has a total of six nominations, is among the performers slated for the Grammy Awards ceremony, Feb. 27 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. She will also perform Feb. 23 at the 33rd NAACP Image Awards, for which is nominated in seven categories.
