A combination of new and previously released tracks by the likes of Sugar Ray, the Cranberries, and Uncle Kracker packs the Hollywood soundtrack to the upcoming Paramount/Nickelodeon sci-fi adventure "Clockstoppers." Due March 26, the set also features a pair of hip-hop artists: veteran Kool Keith and newcomer Lil' J.
Smash Mouth -- whose hit cover of "I'm a Believer" was featured in last year's "Shrek" -- contributes "Holiday in My Head" to the compilation. Lifted from the band's self-titled album, "Holiday" will be the first single from the "Clockstoppers" set, with a supporting video featuring the film's Jesse Bradford and Paula Garces.
"It's the Weekend," by new Hollywood artist Lil' J, was already released as a single, peaking last December at No. 53 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart. The track is a preview of things to come, as it's included on his debut album "All About J," due April 2. The artist is currently winding down a slate of tour dates with B2K and IMX, which stops Saturday (March 9) at the Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix, and wraps March 13 at the House of Blues in Los Angeles.
Uncle Kracker and Sugar Ray each donate covers of songs that in their original incarnation topped The Billboard Hot 100. Kracker adds a previously unreleased take of Cyndi Lauper's 1984 hit "Time After Time," while Sugar Ray's cover of the Steve Miller Band's 1982 hit "Abracadabra" (from the Sugar Ray's 1999 Atlantic set "14:59") is served up in a new Ralph Sall remix version. Previously released cuts by Blink-182, Lit, Scapegoat Wax, and Third Eye Blind are also included.
All of the tracks on the album can be sampled via the "Clockstoppers" soundtrack page on the Hollywood Web site. The film is set to open March 29 in North American theaters.
