Tanya Donelly will hit the road in April for a North American tour in support of her latest solo album, "beautysleep." Set to kick off April 2 in Northampton, Mass., the dates come after a brief promotional swing last month through the U.K., which is documented in a public diary on Donelly's official Web site.

Released last month by 4AD/The Beggars Group, "beautysleep" -- the former Throwing Muses member/Belly leader's first album in nearly five years -- has earned critical praise for Donelly's tender and confident songwriting and performance, something she attributes to the presence of her toddler daughter, Gracie.

"For me, for some reason, the less I try, the more real stuff comes through. I guess I put my head aside and I actually say what I mean. And then, when I really try hard to say what I mean, it seems strident and forced and untrue." Donelly recently told Billboard. "I think the fact that I'm so focused on Gracie has allowed that side of me to work on its own. So now, when I write, it's almost as if the process has been going on without me being aware of it."

"I feel like I'm more a part of the real world than I used to, especially during the creative process, which affords the luxury of selfishness -- which I no longer have at all," she laughingly explained. "I mean, I don't even go to the bathroom by myself anymore."
