The Charlatans U.K., Starsailor, Ash, and Robert Plant & Strange Sensations are among the acts confirmed for the return of the Isle Of Wight festival, the first staging of the U.K. event since 1970. Tickets for the festival, which runs from June 3-16, are on sale now via the U.K. Ticketmaster Web site.
Four main events will be held at Isle Of Wight, beginning with Rock Island on June 3, featuring the aforementioned acts plus DNA Dolls, the Bees, the Coral, Hundred Reasons, and Johnny4. The Blues & Folk segment, set for June 8-9, will feature Jools Holland and Rolf Harris, while jazz acts are still being confirmed for the June 15-16 Festival Finale.
The Youth Music program will run throughout the festival, and offer everything from performances by up-and-coming bands, DJ workshops, and lectures and master classes. The Isle Of Wight has also started its own record label, Wightnoise, and will celebrate its launch with a special June 7 show.
Prior editions of the festival spawned legendary performances from such acts as the Who -- whose 1970 appearance was later released on the 1996 album "Live at the Isle of Wight" -- and Jimi Hendrix, whose performance at the 1970 festival preceded his death by just 18 days.
