Fatboy Slim (real name: Norman Cook) was the big winner at the inaugural DanceStar USA Awards, held Sunday night in Miami. Slim picked up the best international act honor and the best video trophy for the inventive "Weapon of Choice" clip, which features actor Christopher Walken.

Slim was nominated in five categories at the 2001 European version of the DanceStar awards, but took home just one for best breakbeat/electronic act.

Other DanceStar USA winners included Jennifer Lopez (best chart artist), the Crystal Method (best act), and Paul Oakenfold (best DJ). Held at the Jackie Gleason Theatre, the event, which closed out the annual Winter Music Conference, featured performances by Funky Green Dogs, Kosheen, Timo Maas featuring Kelis, Grandmaster Flash, and Green Velvet. Masters At Work, who were honored with the special outstanding contribution to worldwide dance music award, also performed.

DanceStar USA nominees were selected by the DanceStar Academy; winners were chosen by the academy and the general public via the DanceStar Web site.
