Boston-based hard rock act Godsmack has set an April 9 release date for "Smack This!," a home video project that utilizes footage captured by the band's members. The Republic/Universal DVD spotlights Godsmack's live prowess, and also captures backstage footage and interviews with band members.

Compiled over the last five years, "Smack This!" is described as a video diary of the band's rise from obscurity to a top-selling act. Godsmack's latest release, last year's "Awake," debuted at No. 5 on The Billboard 200, and was earlier this month certified triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America for U.S. shipments of 3 million copies.

The album has spawned several hit singles for the group deemed Billboard's 2001 Rock Artist of the Year, including the title track, which topped Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. In addition, "Greed" peaked at No. 3 on the chart, while "Bad Magick" reached at No. 12.

"Greed" earned the band Boston Music Awards nominations for single and video of the year. Godsmack is also up for rock band of the year, while Sully Erna is up in the male vocalist category. The band will perform at the April 11 awards ceremony at the city's Orpheum Theatre.

As previously reported, the band -- which is rounded out by guitarist Tony Rombola, bassist Robbie Merrill, and drummer Tommy Stewart -- contributed the new song "I Stand Alone" to the Universal soundtrack to "The Scorpion King." The track is No. 5 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.
