Gareth Gates' "Unchained Melody" (S/BMG) passed the 1-million sales mark and secured its second week at No. 1 on yesterday's (March 30) U.K. singles chart. With the current hits by Shaggy featuring Ali G and Shakira moving up one place to No. 2 and 3 respectively, the chart's highest new entry was "My People" by Missy Elliott featuring Eve (Elektra) at No. 5. The track by the U.S. hip-hop queen has been remixed by British dance stars Basement Jaxx.

The only other top-10 newcomer was "Shake Ur Body" by the London-based Shy FX & T-Power featuring Di, a favorite on the underground U.K. garage dance scene now making its pop crossover after being licensed by EMI's Positiva label. Four other singles made their debut within the top-20: Anastacia's "One Day in Your Life" (Epic) at No. 11, Badly Drawn Boy's "Silent Sigh" (Twisted Nerve/XL Recordings) at No. 16, Travis' "Flowers in the Window" (Independiente) at No. 18, and Outkast's "The Whole World" (LaFace/Arista) at No. 19.

Celine Dion's "A New Day Has Come" (Epic) took its bow at the top of the U.K. album chart. The top-10 of the tally also has an increasingly strong female presence, with titles by Barbra Streisand (No. 3), Jennifer Lopez (No. 5), Shakira (No. 6), Alicia Keys (No. 7), and Kylie Minogue (No. 10).

Europe-wide, Shakira continues at No. 1 on Music & Media's European Top 100 Albums chart with "Laundry Service" (Epic) and at the top of the Eurochart Hot 100 Singles tally with "Whenever Wherever." Lopez's recent Billboard 200 No. 1 "J to Tha L-O! The Remixes" (Epic) is the top new entry on the pan-European album chart at No. 7.
