Singer/songwriter Lyle Lovett is recovering at his home in Klein, Texas, after being discharged Saturday morning from Memorial Hermann Hospital. As previously reported, Lovett underwent surgery on his right leg last week after being trampled by a bull on his uncle's suburban Houston farm.

Lovett's uncle, Calvin Klein (no relation to the fashion designer) says he owes his life to his nephew, who came to his rescue when an enraged bull charged, knocked him to the ground, and mauled him. "If it wouldn't have been for Lyle, I wouldn't be here talking to you," the 67-year-old Klein said in Saturday's edition of the Houston Chronicle.

Klein escaped with severe bruises after the incident. Lovett, 44, faces several months of rehabilitation after his surgery to reconstruct the bone in his right leg.

The bull, called Cotton, was Lovett's pet. After it attacked his uncle, Lovett ran over and slapped the bull with his cap, and the bull turned on him, chasing him to a fence. The bull pinned Lovett's leg against the rail and raked him over to a post, shattering his shinbone.

The entertainer is expected to make a full recovery. Although a Saturday (April 6) show in Wisconsin Dells, Wis., is off of his itinerary, he's still scheduled to take part in the April 14 Willie Nelson tribute in Nashville, and his summer tour schedule has grown over the last few days, including the addition of a July 1-3 stand the Historic Mountain Winery in Saratoga, Calif.
