Rob Zombie will perform two sets on the upcoming Ozzfest tour -- one on the main stage, filling the slot left vacant by the aborted Chris Cornell/Rage Against The Machine project, and the other on the traveling hard rock festival's second stage. According to the Ozzfest Web site, the latter will be a stripped down acoustic set.
"As much as I love the big show and all the production, it becomes this huge thing of its own," Zombie recently told the Los Angeles Times. "Sometimes the show is so huge everything else gets lost... I haven't done anything like [the acoustic set] in 12 years or something."
The move to the main stage leaves the door open for Down to become second stage headliners. The group -- which is made up of Pantera vocalist Phil Anselmo and bassist Rex Brown, Corrosion Of Conformity guitarist Pepper Keenan, Crowbar guitarist Kirk Windstein, and EYEHATEGOD drummer Jimmy Bower -- recently released its sophomore Elektra album, "Down II: A Bustle in Your Hedgerow...," which debuts this week at No. 44 on The Billboard 200.
As previously reported, the Ozzfest main stage will feature Ozzy Osbourne, System Of A Down, P.O.D., Drowning Pool, Adema, and Zakk Wylde's Black Label Society, plus the new addition of Zombie. The tour will kick off July 6 in Bristow, Va., and close Sept. 8 in Dallas. The original schedule has been updated, moving the July 10 event from Wantagh, N.Y. to Scranton, Pa., and flip-flopping the Cleveland and Indianapolis shows, which will now take place on Aug. 4 and Aug. 13, respectively.
In other news, Hatebreed and Andrew W.K. have joined the rotating second stage Ozzfest cast. That lineup will feature Hatebreed, Meshuggah, Apex Theory, Lostprophets, Pulse Ultra, and Neurotica through the tour's entire North American run. From July 6 through Aug. 7. the stage will also boast Flaw, 3rd Strike, Otep, Seether, and Ill Nino; while the Aug. 10-Sept. 8 stint will feature Mushroomhead, SoiL, Chevelle, Glassjaw, the Used, and Switched.
Finally, artists continue to be added to the May 25 U.K. edition of Ozzfest, which will touch down at Castle Donington Park. In addition to previously confirmed acts Osbourne, Tool, System Of A Down, Slayer, American Head Charge (second stage), and Cradle Of Filth, the show will also feature Lostprophets, Millencolin, Adema, Drowning Pool, and Zakk Wylde's Black Label Society on the main stage, and Hundred Reasons, Ill Nino, Hell Is For Heroes, Mushroomhead, Otep, Pulse Ultra, Danko Jones, Nonpoint, and Antiproduct on the Kerrang!/Radio One-sponsored second stage.
